Electric Service

Affordable Power and Unmatched Reliability

Affordable • reliable • flexible

While Tipmont is not specifically subject to state regulation, Indiana law requires that utility services are provided at rates and conditions considered reasonable, just and nondiscriminatory. Oversight of that obligation is provided by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, or IURC.

As such, Tipmont enjoys increased flexibility over its counterparts  — while investor-owned and municipal power providers are subject to longer periods of review and approval.

ESSENTIAL SERVICES

The flexibility to serve your needs

In 2024, several companies committed to nearly $4.5 billion worth investment in Greater Lafayette.

The two main questions posed to power providers in a request for information are:

  • Is there enough capacity to serve the load as required?
  • How much will the power cost?

To answer these questions, we work to determine:

  • The amount of electrical load (or demand) measured in kilowatts or megawatts and / or energy needed (measured in kilowatt hours or megawatt hours)
  • The nature of the electrical load, with such characteristics as load factor and power factor
  • Details about the business or industry in question (e.g., hours of operation, equipment types, etc.)

The path of power

From Generation to Your Business

As a distribution cooperative, Tipmont is an essential “last mile” leg of the journey electricity takes to get to your site.

Tipmont’s innovative partnership with NextEra provides 24/7 access to a competitive power supply market and affordable business rates.

Electricity is initially generated from diverse set fuel sources that include traditional (coal, natural gas, petroleum) and renewable (solar, wind, hydroelectricity, geothermal, biomass).

Electricity is transmitted across a regional grid — which is managed by Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO).

Whether buried underground or mounted on poles, Tipmont lines carry electricity  from our 21 substations to smaller, local transformers that lower voltage for safe use in businesses.

Tipmont’s state-of-the-art Landis+Gyr Revelo meters offer improved voltage management, faster outage response, and distributed energy resource opportunities.
